I have over 300 Facebook "friends". I offered to buy/make a personalized gift for the first five who signed up. The idea is that person would also offer to buy/make a personalized gift for five of their friends.... kinda like a reverse chain letter.
In 24 hours only one person signed up.
I wish I were joking.
Ummm... Sorry... This is going to make you sick, but think like an accountant rather than an economist for a second. You've make a few assumptions.
ReplyDelete1. You've probably assumed that because you've posted it on Facebook that all your friend would be notified. I, and probably many others have not been notified.
2. You may be assuming that people will respond instantly
3. The whole message does not show up and there is nothing drawing much attention to it; so you're probably assuming people will have the patience to "click here" to read further.
4. Last, you're probably assuming that many of your friends check Facebook on a daily basis. (This one may be closer to a fact)
In conclusion, you're not a loser, you just need to market it appropriately and think more like an accountant in this instance ;).
Another thing (and BTW, I am not on Facebook) - maybe people are really busy and not sure they have the time/money to buy/make a personalized gift for five of their friends. I can honestly say that I would probably not do it at this point - WAY too much going on and with the economy the way it is, we are pinching pennies. Especially considering I currently work VERY part-time (7 hours a week) and my job will end in May when the school year is up. They have no idea if they will be able to hire me back next year, due to cuts in school budgets.
ReplyDeleteIt is a VERY nice idea/thought - but perhaps bad timing?
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not about to jump off a bridge or anything. Besides, in this city all I'd get is a broken leg.
ReplyDeleteI understand why people wouldn't sign up but it was interesting that the one guy who did sign on to mine, Karim (a Coe friend) had 14 responses within a few hours!
BTW, Sandy, the idea came from Kim Friese. I love her pottery... she has such cool ideas I can't wait to see what she does.
Now I have to think of something really, really special for Karim.
If only I were creative in that sense... I have not one artistic bone in my body. I can't even decide on a color of paint for my bathroom to get everything to coordinate! LOL. I am betting Kim does wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think you were suicidal or anything - but wanted to offer a different perspective. BUT, the fact that one person had 14 responses within a few hours, well, ya know...
