Dinner party

Well, not quite. After living here for four months I finally got my stove hooked up. Actually, Mike hooked it up in about five minutes. Appropriately, I invited Mike and Ann over for dinner.

It's hard to have people over for dinner when there is no room for a table. "Have a seat on the couch and eat off of the coffee table..."

  3. I'd still be happy to have your cooking even if I were sitting on a couch.

  4. What's wrong with the coffee table... I think I've eatean 75% of my meals at home off a coffee table!

  5. Yes, it is corn. Green Giant corn from the US, actually. It was nothing compared to home grown.

The gravy was surprisingly good. I haven't had much luck with roast gravy lately - it's been soup - but the gravy last night was good.

The roast, on the other hand was a rump roast and even drier than rumps are in Iowa. I'll have to keep looking for a chuck or arm.

At first I thought it was a dumb idea to even try to emulate my favorite meal back home. I thought it would only depress me because it couldn't be anywhere near as good. In reality it wasn't as good but it was surprisingly close. Ann was stunned by my mashed potatoes. Making good mashed potatoes has been something I've been working on for years... ever since Wu once compared mine to cement.
