The Iowa effect

In two days two polls have been released from CBS/New York Times and ABC/Washington Post. Both show (for the first time) that more Americans support gay marriage than oppose it. For the NYT poll it is a 9% jump since the last poll.

In polling sea changes like this don't happen without a cause. In this case the cause is clear: The Iowa effect.

Gay's marrying in Massachusetts? California? Big deal. Those are big liberal states on the coasts. Gay marriage in Iowa? Wow.

This is not to cut off the groundbreaking credit due to Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or California... but it took having a middle of the country state like Iowa to accept gay marriage to make, well 9% of the population to say, "It must not be a bad thing."

I love Iowa.
