On the map above every darker shade means a higher percentage of uninsured people. Curiously, the Big Ten states are relative light. Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota are particularly white... and for this map, the whiter, the better. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the nation yet its people mostly have health insurance.
Beyond the "We're just good people and morally superior to the rest of the nation" what can explain this difference?
My guess would be that the higher the unemployment rate, the higher the number of welfare recipients. That would equal a lot of people on title 19.
