Half-way home

I left Iowa 77 days ago.  I will be back home in 70 days, give or take a day or two.  The past month has flown by.  Living at the Hilton was a nice experience.  Who wouldn't want a maid cleaning your room everyday?  But living in my own apartment has been better.  Yes, it's small and poorly built.  In some ways it is like living where I did in CR - I have tons of restaurants within a three minute drive.  My office is five minutes away.

Gus has become completely acclimated to life on the farm.  While I'd like to bring him back with me in January I'd only be doing it for selfish reasons.  The trip would be very, very hard on him and he'd have little to do here.  This really isn't a dog friendly culture.  In eleven weeks I've seen two dogs.  Wow.

Unrelated:  The luncheon for our deceased colleague was better than expected.  A person took pictures of each of us and took down our names.  They wanted to send it to the family to show who attended.  I skipped signing a book where people wrote remembrances.  What would I write, "From everything I heard you were a great guy.  I enjoyed the two sentences we exchanged a couple of weeks back..."?

The disturbing story told:  Brian was apparently very unhappy with housing.  He complained and complained.  He was told that a person on probation - and who wants to keep his job - should not complain.  He stopped complaining.

How do I feel about my housing?  I like turtles.
