"Someday they'll put it in the water like fluoride."

In 2000 I had a routine blood screen that showed I had a cholesterol reading of 466. That's not high cholesterol, that's pushing sludge through your veins.

I went to various heart specialists and was placed on a high dose of Lipitor. When I remember to take it Lipitor works so well it drops me down to 170. (By the way, the total number is not very meaningful. The ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol is more important.)

Lipitor is part of the class of drugs called statins, like Zocor, Previa, Crestor, etc.

One doctor said he took a low dose even though he has no cholesterol issue. It turns out he was on to something. A new study says taking statins cuts the risk of heart attack in half for those with no cholesterol problem.

Wow.

The same heart doctor who took statins (even though he didn't need it) said, "Someday they'll put it in the water like fluoride."

With results like this he might be right. In the meantime I have to remember to take my damn pill.
