Quote of the day

The headline of today's business section in the National newspaper is "Emiratis should work way up". The first paragraph reads:
Emiratis need to take entry-level jobs and accept wages set by the market so they can take a bigger role in the economic development of the coutnry, according to the new head of a body designed to increase employment among nationals.
Good luck. A private in the military makes $62,000 tax free. Wage expectations are not based in reality. My students see no problem with paying someone based on their nationality. I've tried to stress that employers pay on the basis of the value of the worker. It's a completely foreign concept.
