Nepal Day 10 - City views

There are no high rises in this poor country. Most buildings are 3 or 4 stories tall and house many families. As I wrote below the densely populated city is very easy to walk from end to end.

  1. I have to admit, these pictures made me sad. I had, in my mind, a mental picture of Kathmandu as a rather quaint, out of touch and sparsely populated city (I say 'sparsely' not meaning very few people, but certainly not the crowded picture presented here). I feel like I am looking at Calcutta or Dhaka, but not my image of Kathmandu. Perhaps I am feeling a bit sorry I saw these pictures.

In the same breath, I have to compliment you on the great pictures you have taken, Steve. I really think this photography is more your ilk than indoor, wedding type stuff. And your commentaries make one feel like they are right there with you.

    Thanks for a great vacation!!!

  2. Another thought....I know the Royal Family has been tossed out, but I am wondering if you were able to get any pictures of the Royal Palace or other palaces? Did you come across any evidence of Tibetans being in the city? This is certainly one place on my wish list of places to visit. I have no interest in Europe....but Nepal, India, Thailand, Malaysia....that is my dream. Perhaps in my next life.
