Al Shabab

I like getting feedback on my teaching so I invited my friend Christine to observe. Chris has been in the UAE for six years but has only taught women. Observing a class of men was an eye-opening experience. Afterward some of the shabab (young men) posed for a picture.

Most guys wear white kanduras (robes) with a colorful guthra (head scarf). The guys on the right wearing the red & white checkered ones are the most common. In this picture three of the eleven Emiratis are wearing colorful kanduras. In most classes the ratio is much lower. It is common to look at a class of all white robes.

Most non-emiratis (like the guy in the t-shirt) wear western style clothes. Unlike the US, the t-shirts rarely advertise anything and often don't make any sense.
