There's an interesting contrast of footwear for women in Ukraine: It's the "I'll be comfortable in tennis shoes" vs. trendy/provocative clothes and high heels.
One of the most amazing things to see in Ukraine is the women in heels. 
They are everywhere.
There are women that wear shear tops and lingerie bras with heels like this. In the US the only question would be, "What is the price for an hour?" In Ukraine it was the common style of dress. It made me wonder, "So what do the hookers wear?" Oh that's right - leopard skin.
What makes the heels so incredibly amazing is the cobblestone everywhere. If the women only had to walk on pavement or traditional concrete sidewalks the high heels would be interesting. But knowing that this above is what they are walking on makes it amazing.Andrew (from the post below) was surprised to learn that American women don't dress like this on a regular basis.

How completely offensive to assume a woman wearing shoes like those in the picture was a hooker. Clearly you are totally out of synch with fashion these days.
ReplyDeleteYou have misread my post with the skill of Glen Beck. I said women who wear "shear tops with lingerie bras" and heels like this look like hookers... certainly not all women who wear heels.
ReplyDeleteSteve, haven't you noticed that women in the UAE (or at least, in Dubai) also wear heels, A LOT, even going to the mall and stuff? It's the same here... and even though we don't have old cobblestone streets, we DO have tons of bricked streets and sidewalks with the little grout grooves to get a heel stuck in, plus plenty of shiny, waxed marble floors to slide on. I hate wearing heels in this country for that very reason!

ReplyDeleteAu contraire, mon frere, I did not misread your statement. And Glen Beck I am definitely not. I was disputing your lack of fashion knowledge based on your entire statement, but emphasizing that whether we like them or not, there is nothing wrong with the shoes. And, based on fashion articles I have read and pictures I have seen recently, "shear [sic] tops and lingerie bras" are definitely fashionable among those in the fashion world. My statement stands.
