Jon Stewart sums it up well:

Bush was able to push through a tax cut that cost twice as much as health care reform with 90% of the benefits going to the wealthy. He also took us to an unnecessary war that costs much more per year than healthcare reform.
And he did all of that with very slim majorities in the House and an evenly divided Senate. Democrats now have strong majorities in both chambers and are allowing Republicans to write the rules.
Some days it’s easy to understand why my party’s symbol is a jackass.
How depressing.... Grassley is such a joke.
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculous! What's the point of having a National Democrative Committee if they aren't going to work together? The end is the kicker for me and makes me sick to my stomach. What is going on Steve?! Can none of our elected leaders articulate solid reasoning for anything they're working towards?
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the colored perspective on the Bush adminstration. The key point is that with those tax cuts, tax revenues were up. The problem was that congress (repubs as wella s dems) went on a spending spree during the Bush administration. Now, thanks to Obamas policies, tax revenues have sunken drastically, and Obama is trying to make the spending during the Bush adminstration look like chump change.
ReplyDeleteSomeday I'll address the whole supply side "cutting taxes raises tax revenue" claim. It will take time on the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) website and I certainly don't have the energy today.
ReplyDeleteI am curious though, what taxes has Obama raised? He passed a tax cut as part of the stimulus but has been a stealth tax increase I'm not aware of in 2009?
I AGREE!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, didn't he just raise taxes on tobacco products, candy and soda?
ReplyDeleteThe tax revenue issues are just a fact. Tax revenues are wayyyy down. Not sure what Chad is agreeing with.
