"Do not talk"
"Be quiet!"
"No talking means NO TALKING!"
"Shut up!"
"You are making me lose hair on my head. As you can see I don't have much hair to lose." They liked that one.
What finally worked? "If you guys keep talking I will take off points for everyone in the class."
Towards the end of the class a student powered up his laptop to find an answer!
If only I had been allowed to use a laptop (did we have laptops?) in college, I'm sure I would've done much better in econ and statistics.

ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't have helped me in Dick Bahwell's Abnormal Psych, but may have helped in other classes. Well, not in any of my theater classes either I guess...
Wow. That is pretty gutsy - what did you say when the student did that?
I laughed. I told him to put it away... and he did. When he handed in the test he politely asked if he could power up the laptop now.
