Right now every public university (like the one I teach at) is free. There's a
serious proposal to make school free only for those who get good grades. As grades go down the fees goes up.
I like the idea but it would make teaching unpleasant. I can't imagine how dramatic the pleas will become, "But, sir, you must give me an A. My family is poor..."
