The weather has been sunny for six months. Today, however, it was just plain cloudy and chilly. The sun almost broke through in the late afternoon as its silhouette peered through clouds.
As Robby noted in a comment, the frequent economic posts lately have been downright gloomy. In my typical life-as-a-dog attitude I say to myself, "At least I'm not a college senior. They're really screwed."
So I've been searching for the silver lining... the sun's silhouette on a cloudy day. Here's the best I can do:
No inflation.
From clothes to cars whatever you're paying now is likely what you'll be paying years from now. Prices simply don't go up in a depression.
That's my silver lining. I hope it helped.
So, my econ guru, should I stop contributing to my 401k now that the Dow just went under 7000?
ReplyDeleteNo inflation, but everyone is worried about stagflation... Does this mean a stronger dollar?! How is the Euro doing with the controversy in Europe?!
ReplyDeleteStagflation is inflation in a stagnant economy.
ReplyDeleteCompared to what we are facing now, 1980's style stagflation would be would be wonderful.
******
Now is not the time to stop contributing to 401k. I'll do a post about why...
Thank you sir!
