Culver has vowed to veto any increase in the gas tax.
Sad. While I was back in January it was easy to see how bad the roads have become.
Twenty percent of this tax would have been paid by those driving through I-80 and I-35. It would have employed thousands of Iowans. The end result would be better roads which are absolutely essential to economic development.
As I have written before, I know Governor Culver is a good man. I wish he had better economic advisors.
I drove on both 35 and 80 today (coming back to MN from IL). Perhaps the other roads in Iowa are worse, but let me tell you that very few states can touch Illinois for worst roads. Truckers routinely vote Illinois as one of the top 3 worst roads in the country.
ReplyDeleteThis year, Minnesota roads aren't much better. I have taken to going somewhat out of my way to avoid the road that is a much more direct route to work, for fear of all the damage that road is doing to our van.
Here's hoping that somehow Obama can convince Congress to build up our infrastructure more than they are doing!
