Command economy
I read this newspaper because of the headline story: Should the UAE allow men and women to be in the same classroom. The article basically argued that some universities should allow it and that will give natives a choice. Not exactly ground breaking stuff.
The story from the corner was more interesting: Students are complaining because the prices for food at the cafeterias has gone up. In my building there is a Quizno's and a Dunkin' Donuts independently owned and operated, I presume.
The story says the government will look into the price increases and order them to lower their prices if they find it has been raised too quickly. I read this on a day I was explaining the difference between a market economy and a command economy.
My students expressed complete support for the government intervening on things like prices. Not many could see the counter argument. I explained that the government doesn't tell Dunkin' Donuts what to charge in the US.
It seems the more I talk about America this term the less my students want anything to do with us.

I would like to know why the students in the paper look very similar to those Russian nesting dolls.
