Rape victim charged

This is the type of story that will keep any of my family/friends from coming to visit.  What I'm not 100% sure about:  I know the alcohol charge would not be there if she were not Muslim, but I'm not sure about the "sex outside marriage" charge.

  1. Both would be there regardless of religious affiliation; public drunkenness and sex outside of marriage are both against the law in the UAE. The trick is not to make either activity public, then they won't care. But as soon as it's out in public, and cannot be ignored, then the authorities will uphold the law.

  2. Call me a dreamer, but I'd like to think a woman should be able to go to the authorities after being raped and not fear being prosecuted.

The message this sends is clear: See a Muslim woman drinking? Feel free to rape her because she won't likely go to the police.
