Off the west coast of the United States sits cargo ships waiting to be offloaded. Sitting inland are truck drivers frustrated that they can’t pick up cargo. Everyone points fingers at who to blame – the greedy transport ships, the truckers, the inept government rules and regulations. Perhaps, some of the blame can be distributed to each party.
Regardless, this is an interesting mix of problems created in
the supply chain that reverberates through the economy and, ultimately,
politics.
I was very happy to see 60 Minutes give airtime to Ryan Peterson,
the CEO of Flexport. I’ve listened to half dozen interviews with him over the
past few months. It would be easy to point to his vested interest in his
company as his motivation, but if you hear the longer interviews you’ll see he
has genuine concern for all parties… and even helped to get changed a rule of
stacking containers that helped a bit in alleviating the congestion.
Overall, this 60 Minutes piece is a must-see TV for all who
study supply chain, economics, and politics.
