Free Fallin’

I am renewing my call for uplifting music. (I need it.) This time I’ll start with one of my own. How can a song where a guy is saying he is free fallin’ being uplifting? Because it came out in the spring of 1989 and that was me… and I realized it. This song helped me make a turn-around and I appreciate it to this day.

Somewhere over the rainbow

This version was submitted by a friend in real estate.  I hope things are going well for her in this market.

I love this version and *I think* it is the same that used to play at the end of Party of Five episodes.  Anyone know for sure?

Uplifting music: Blue Does

The latest entry is a new song from a relatively new Dad.

As a wedding photographer I can only hope this song replaces “Butterfly Kisses” as the father-daughter dance.

Seriously. “Kisses” is way too long (2 minutes longer than the one above). Besides being so sweet I feel like a diabetic going into shock when I hear it - the father and daughter usually give up dancing after five minutes and stand and talk to each other while waiting for the song to end.

Just how much do I hate “Butterfly Kisses”? Enough that I’ve contemplated putting in the contract. Right below “Photographer will be provided a meal at the reception” (which, sadly, is not a given) would be a “Butterfly Kisses will not be the father-daughter dance.”

Uplifting music - ACDC

From a high school friend. She says Back in Black and Hell’s Bells get her, her husband and their kids going.

I’m not a fan of Back in Black but I’ve always like Hell’s Bells.

Sorry Mom and Dad, but my generation are much cooler parents.

Of course, Cristy’s children will probably grow up and think of ACDC the way I think of 70’s country music.

I need uplifting music

Since I am the only liberal under 40 who is not all tingly over today’s ruling I thought I should go back and seek some of the uplifting music that has been submitted.

First there’s “Don’t worry, be happy!” I genuinely love this song. It came out in 1988 and was the theme for RA training at Coe that fall. As a sophomore RA I was WAY stressed out and I *needed* this song.

This entry is from a woman (big surprise). It’s appropriate today because Cyndi Lauper is a huge supporter of gay rights.

Last year she even did a pro-diversity gig on As The World Turns - the soap I grew up on.

How the lightning storm made me feel

Well, not quite. This wasn’t Sam’s entry into the uplifting music series but he says gets a smile (that’s all, so he claims) every time he plays this.

I’m glad to see Saturday Night Live can still do great work.
